Człowiek czy autyzm? Relacja z Autism - Europe Congress 2016 w Edynburgu.

The autism spectrum is usually connected with human development. Personally I would like to consider autism spectrum as a different, specific development pattern, not a disorder. I believe that I don’t need to talk about “illness” in context of autism spectrum. In parallel I am thrilled with my observation, that people with autism spectrum are treated as people with common behavior disorder. They are forced to change their behavior to make it appropriate with general rules. To achieve this goal, therapists are reaching for means, that may destroy in human being everything what really mattes.
The development of every human being is going along the same rules. Everyone knows that before a child learns to walk, it has to rise it’s head, sit and stand up. I am surprised that it is so hard to understand, that the development of communication, social skills, and mind theory is also a chain of logically connected development milestones. It is absolutely not possible for human being to understand emotions of others, if he cannot share the field of attention. Today hundreds of thousands kids in the world are taught to connect photos of emotions to pictograms or words. They cannot understand it that because they cannot understand their own emotions and feeling. They are politely fulfilling their tasks. They are taught that they have to be polite. Have you ever seen a totally polite typical teenager? Typical teenagers may be well educated, kind, have a perfect sense of current situation and behave in an appropriate way. But they are not forcing themselves to be polite. They want to answer for needs of other people, because they understand them. This is possible because they understand its own needs. Kids, teenagers and adults with autism spectrum are trying to be polite, no matter what they feel and need. People with autism are forced to look at other people, without letting them understand what can be important or interesting in other people faces.
Autism is a specific development pattern with different perception, concentration on details, things and logical connections between them. This impacts the development of relationships with other people. Now we know how to efficiently avoid secondary problems with learning among people with autism. It is time do discover another pice of the picture. The development of social thinking is more important than cognitive development. The knowledge and good marks is school are useless if they cannot be used in real life. How can you explain the need for hundreds of hours of learning, if the child cannot understand itself and own basic needs? The relationship with other people develops in the same way in all humans - by trust, understanding and emotional exchange, from first days of life. People with autism show emotions in a different way, but experience them in the same way as we all do. The lack of understanding of emotions by the surroundings creates the gap, usually described with “glass wall” stereotype. This gap dooms autistic people for emptiness and loneliness with their own feelings. How they can build a relationship with other people if other people are the source of fear and uncertainty, because they demand things not possible to understand?
It is not possible to change the human with autism spectrum to typical one. However we can help such person to understand itself in the realm of surrounding reality. Therapist should be a guide to the parts of the world, that are hard to understand. Therapist cannot be tamer. Self-understanding and letter understanding of other people flourish with desired harmony. Delivery of communication tools gives chances for wider exchange. Communicating is not only for satisfy physical needs. Much more important is ability do express yourself. However to express anything, first you need to know yourself. Self-awareness people with autism is a key to motivation, will to cooperate and understanding others. It is much more important then reading lessons.
Regardless of the differences between us, we all need to satisfy own physiological needs like sensory, safety, acceptance, love, relationships with other people, success and ability to share own mind. None will survive without all that. If we cannot satisfy this needs, we go crazy. You will go crazy too, because deep inside we are all the same.
